Webb Simpson takes part in Sony Open

US pro golfer Webb Simpson is the only present major champ in the Sony Open field on the PGA Tour for this week. The defending US Open champ was all set to take part in the final round of Hyundai Tournament of Champions and after that go to Hawaii to Honolulu to take part in Sony sponsored championship.

Webb won his 1st major event last June. Some people may tell that this was an event which Jim Furyk lost but Webb played the back 9 in 1-under par. He played his top golf when the pressure was really acute.

The US Open offers a worthy champ because of the different demands of the tournament. The US PGA philosophy states, “A US Open course should test all forms of shot making, mental tenacity, and physical endurance under conditions of extreme pressure found only at the highest levels of championship golf.”

Jim was the best golfer for sixty nine holes but after that he faltered to allow Webb to be victorious in the US Open. The champ got up and down from a tough lie apart from the 18th green and at last he had the mental power to set a clubhouse aim which could not be accomplished.

After becoming victorious in the Open, Webb touched a career high of No. 5 in world rankings. But after that he has slipped to eleventh spot in the new rankings. He took part in Ryder Cup but lost his match against Ian Poulter.
