Justin Thomas was able to hold off Jordan Spieth at the Dell Technologies championship that was recently held.
He took the winner’s cup at the championships. Justin Thomas gained the 17th position and beat Jordan by a difference of three points. The championship was concluded on Monday. Justin, as a result of this championship, has added a title to his accolades this season. He has outlasted the likes of Marc Leishman and Jordan Spieth as a result.
Thomas was able to surge ahead even though he was initially two shots behind. He also scored 6 foot par save and limited his mistakes. There was a three shot victory as a result with 5-under 66 as his final score. There was a starting opportunity that Spieth wasted due to which the Labor Day crowd was riled up. There were many mistakes found on back nine initially. He missed the 14th green while playing at the fairway. Spieth gained runner up position for the second week consecutively in the playoffs of the FedEx Cup. However, it did give him a boost in the standings, pushing him near the number one position.
There is one event more to complete before the ten million prize is claimed by the final winner of the Tour Championship.
The victory that Justin Thomas added to his resume for this year at TPC Boston has definitely boosted the number of wins he has obtained. Leishman was able to build a lead of two shots, but this advantage did not last for long. Thomas is 24 years of age, this is his breakthrough season and it seems to be getting better. This is his fifth win this season and his first major win has been the PGA Championship. He might become applicable for PGA Tour player of the year with the kind of performance he has put in.
Rory McIlroy, one of the top golfers in the world has shown his criticism on cutting of heavy rough at Erin Hills before the beginning of the US Open.
Just two days are left at the start of the tournament. This step was taken after a video was posted by the players of the knee-length grass.
The thick and tall fescue was removed from four holes just two days before the event at Erin Hills.
In his criticism, the authorities of The United States Golf Association (USGA) replied, the decision of cutting the fescue was taken considering the not the feedback of players
McIlroy said, “There are 156 best players present all over the world in the tournament. If we are unable to hit the ball within that avenue, then it is better to pack bags and go home.”
The Fescue at the course was cut down from the four holes, the hole no 4, 12, 14 and 18. The reason that the organizers are giving behind this action is that the wet weather made could have made the areas unplayable. It was forecasted that place will receive rain during the tournament days.
On the other hand McIlroy has a different point of view on that, according to him, the width of the fairways made the thickness of the rough a hazard, which is fair for the tournament.
“From the left line to the right, we have 60 yards, which is the widest fairways; one would have ever played in a US Open. The first and second cut is the addition of another 10 yards in the course.
“It is a hazard; no matter it is thick or whatever. The tournament is the US Open, it is one of the toughest one. And thus no complaint work here.
If you are looking to hitch a lone professional golfer, Rickie Fowler would be the man to follow.
He still seems to be the single man on the courses. About 28 years of age, he has been spending his spring break at the Bahamas along with pals from PGA like Symlie Kaufman, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth along with their girlfriends.
There have been photos of him being the seventh lone wheel in a pic where the three couples are locked in kisses front and center. It seems that Fowler opted to go for the tropical holiday without having a date and joined his buddies as they dived off yachts or hit the green. All this he did and more without adding any spice on social media, it is not that he shies away from social attention or life in general and his single status has definitely gained a lot of attention lately, especially since the Ryder Cup celebrations that were documented last fall of Team USA. It is indeed a bold move on his part to be seen singly when his friends were along with their significant others.
He had been seen with Alexis Randock before whom he kissed after he won the Players Championship in the year 2015. He was also linked with Lauren Barr recently, but it does not seem that he is attached to anyone of late. He was concentrating on his performance at the Masters that was held recently where it seemed that he might have some possibilities of a win but his final performance dropped to the eleventh place eventually. The festivities might be over, but the Ryder Cup photo that was shot in SB2K216 was reenacted this year as it gained much popularity. Indeed, the iconic stance of the single man Fowler among the kissing couples makes it a pic hard to ignore.
John Rahm has surpassed top golfers Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth as he reached the $2 million mark quicker.
The golfers reached the milestone n the first 16 events of their golf career but Rahm has broken this record when he reached there one event quicker.
Rahm won the OHL Classic back in 2012 at Mayakoba to achieve the record. Spieth did his in 2013 when he won the John Deere Classic in his 16th event.
On the other hand, Woods won his at the 1997 Byron Nelson when he won just five times but in his 16th event. The 41-year old ha broken many records but is now struggling to remain relevant in the sport. He returned after a career-ending back injury and a 15-month absence but cold not make the cut at Torrey Pines.
Oddsmakers have lost faith in him but he remains resilient in his resolve to comeback into the sport. He still has a chance at the Dubai Desert Classic but many have doubts.
Woods won little money per event but gathered enough to reach the $2 million mark in his 16 event run. Barring inflation, his prize money for the 1997 event was $486,000 compared to the $1.2 million Rahm was awarded at the Farmers Insurance Open. Many would wave off Rahm’s record but it remains impressive to beat the top golfers anyway.
Rahm turned pro only last year. He played and finished T3 at the Quicken Loans National and then finished T2 at the Canadian Open ahead of his Farmers win. He has played 12 events as a pro on the PGA Tour and has earned $2.44 million.
Rahm remains one of the fastest rising youngsters on the Tour with a bright future ahead of him.
Graeme McDowell has an interesting take on his opponents’ performance.
He said that Marc Leishman and Adam Scott will benefit from the homegrown support at the World Cup of Gold crown. However, he believes that some extra noise can be troublesome to their progress as it can result in added expectation. And this can affect the performance as well.
He will be partnering with Shane Lowry in Melbourne for the team event, which is scheduled for November 24. And he hopes to see some generous Irish supporters when they play at the famous Sandbelt course.
When it comes to the 56-player field, support from the gallery is very important. And he knows that Leishman and Scott will be walking away with most of the backing. But when it comes to the pair’s category which has players from 28 nations, gallery support can be a double-edged sword.
He still remembers the 2013 event where the fan group named “the Fanatics” played a big part in the event at Royal Melbourne. Jason Day and Scott, the Australian pair, walked away with the top prize. And he wishes to have the same kind of fan support so that he and Lowry can outperform themselves.
Such an atmosphere created by the fans at the gallery can be very crucial.
He believes that playing with the Aussie boys will contribute to the fun. And he looks forward to the banter associated with it. A good turnout can always expect over there. The good thing is that there are plenty of Irish in Melbourne, which is definitely going to be a big plus when they will be playing there.
When asked about the upcoming event, he said that expects good support for him and Shane. But he knows for sure that Leishman and Scottie will be getting maximum support due to the home advantage. But he also believes that it will add expectations.
The forty’s man Steve Stricker might have something to cheer about when the US Ryder Cup team would be announced soon.
It looks like Steve is in the good books of the US team’s Ryder Cup captain David Love III. There is every chance for Stricker to be the vice captain of the US Ryder Cup team along with the likes of Tiger Woods, Tom Lehman and Furyk.
Stricker is thinking about what he needs to do after earning a 4th place at the British Open and a second place in Memphis. His performance in Memphis has taken him to Scotland. He finished Scotland in third place and has won invitations to play in the PGA Championship as well as the Master’s and Players Championship next year. He is now excited that he could make it to the US Ryder Cup team that is slated to play against the European Ryder Cup team in Hazeltine in late September.
Playing the Ryder Cup with the team is what Stricker wanted to experience once more and he is happy that he will soon be taking part in another Ryder Cup event. Ryder Cup was not on his mind till Trooon event. He said that he is playing pretty well now and is looking to play the same way in the Ryder Cup to earn a pick.
Stricker says that he does not play full time and hence he will need to prove to Love and others that he is a genuine player and can play the long fiddle for the team. This is the goal that Stricker has in mind for some time now. Love will be making three captain’s picks by September 11 and Stricker hopes that he makes the cut. The final announcement by Love will be made on September 25 before the US Ryder Cup team leaves to Minneapolis.
Tiger Woods has been passing fused signals regarding his eventual come back to the game of golf – he said last month that he does not know when he would be quite healthy enough to play, just after he replied to widespread bruits that his wounds had left him helpless by uploading a video of his swing – and earlier on Monday Tiger’s agent triggered a bit of a stir by denying to rule out a surprise show at Augusta.
The Masters will take place next week. And it is greatly unlikely that Tiger will take part in that. But Steve Stricker, who is one of his closest friends in the circuit, told that Woods is anxious to get back to the game. Steve Stricker speculated that Tiger may sit out the whole year, but not because he does not want to play.
He told a leading golf website that he could see him just staying away in 2016. He had asked him if he is getting healthier. And he says he is. And he’s antsy to get back. But he believes that this time, Tiger wants to take it a bit slower, and ensure that everything is okay with his back, and he is healed and ready to go before he comes back. He produces so much force in that swing. And the body could just take so much. Therefore, he is very sure that Tiger is just making sure that everything is okay before he comes back.
Steve Stricker swung his way in full glory around the prestigious Augusta National a few days back after his return from critical surgery. But he is also having this feeling that this Augusta could be the final Masters for him ever.
In case it is so, he left some great memories for himself and his fans.
Steve’s four-under-par sixty eight equalled his 2nd best scoring in his fifty rounds played here. The golf champ’s best score was a good 66 in 1st round fifteen years back in 2000.
The golf champ is 48 at present & it was just in December only that he returned to his sport post surgery. Steve teed up with Augusta National 2015 which marked his 1st start for the running year & made cut on number.
Even prior to his surgery, Steve was not playing regularly. He cut back on his golf schedule to enjoy good time with family. Whilst he is very much willing for more stints at Masters yet he is not exactly sure whether he would be able to qualify again or not.
“I was thinking about it this very morning”, stated Stricker while speaking about his assumption that the Augusta 2015 might be the final Masters for him.
The star golfer, who once rose to the staggering rank of world # 2, has at present slipped to # 75. To regain his previous glory, the golfer would need to work really hard to get at least up to 50 or otherwise he has triumph at Masters in 2016.
“I have to work really hard to climb up back there”, he continued. “It has always been my goal to climb back there & such a goal is common for every golfer. Thus, I would be looking forward to work on that throughout this year as well as next year.”
